YO!.....Edward (ha),

OK....think I have the answer to the "worms"....they are sand dunes at
the bottom of canyons/gullies.  I looked at some adjacent high
resolution photos, and so, I think the mystery is solved.  See:

The top picture is also a sand dune area, but the "spots" are guessed
to be a iron oxide or other composition reaction.

Do you take orders for pizza's there at USGS??  (ha....I couldn't
help myself, you ornery cuss!)
