       It rather depends on what information you need and in what detail. 
       I just typed 'Hayward Fault' into www.google.com and got 10,800 
references..... If you allow 5 mins for each and work 16 hr days, you could 
be finished in just 8 weeks.... 
       There seems to be plenty of information; sorting it may be more of a 
problem. There are usually 'review papers' from time to time which you should 
look out for. The emergency services in the area will probably have up to 
date information and know of most developments and 'forecasts'.
