I have a little more update to date information on the AS-1. You are =
correct that Jeff Batten passed away. His wife has been able to engage =
a friend who is an electrical/mechanical engineer into taking on Jeff's =
work. There is quite a bit of backlog in providing AS-1 seismometers to =
the IRIS Seismographs in Schools project http://www.iris.edu/hq/sis so =
he will be concentrating on that first. However, I am told by IRIS that =
he is planning on making improvements to Jeff's design and will be =
working on that as soon as he can catch up.
Chris Chapman has provided me with one of his period extending circuit =
designs which I am testing. Chris has been an invaluable resource to =
me. I am so glad that he is back online. What a resource he is!

It seems for now that anyone who wants an AS-1 sensor will have to =
build their own. Chris Chapman informed me that GeoffBatten =
unfortunately died a couple of months back and his widow does not seem =
to have found anyone to make more AS-1's. I do not know how hard it will =
be to obtain the BlackBox amplifier that is a vital part of the AS-1 =
system. Chris may be eventually able to supply us with a circuit diagram =
of an amplifier providing the necessary bass boost, but he is =
recuperating at his home in the Midlands, and presently unable to access =
his papers in his primary residence in Upwaltham. Meanwhile, my digital =
inverse filter, implemented in WQFilter.exe, can be helpful. Larry is =
working on coding this filter for use in WinQuake.
I want to remind all that the connections between the spring ends and =
the sensor are also flexure points, and deserve every bit as much =
attention to slip-stick friction and flat spots as the boom attachment. =
I have learned this from hard experience.
