RE: Networking Home PcsWas My face red.

If you are right, if "i" becomes a "5"
then you have solved my fear of having a virus.

I really really feel stupid now that I myself
did not see such an obvious thing.

I will eventually look at this
but not for an hour or so.
My face must get back to flesh colored crayon
before I can do anything at all.

Regards,
geoff

I used the very same NETWORK name like WORKGROUP or MSHOME or 123456789 ??

But the two computers have different names.

I just discovered a problem with my laptop.

I tried to give it a user password.

It was corrupting the keys as I pressed in the password ******

like seismic beacame se5sm5c

So I had to reformat the drive and reinstall everything

because there might be a malware on that machine.

Now that it has been redone maybe I can get it to work ??

Geoffrey,

I noted you used the identical computer names for both machines. You should have a different name on each computer. The name

translates to the IP address. You should have the same workgroup name in both as this is the domain for seeing the other machines.

I think in Windows 7 it is called something different like homegroup. The DHCP server in the Windows 7 machine would interfere

and crash my router so you must insure that is off. I don’t have Windows 7 but my daughter brings her laptop and it works fine on

my network now that we made minor changes. My other daughter brings an Apple and that also works so at times I have Win98, Win XP,

Win7 and Apple and Linux on at the same time. I use the WPA/PSK security also.
