Geoff,
This is a nice publication showing earthquake potential along the Oregon
Coast
http://www.oregongeology.org/sub/quarpub/CascadiaWinter2010.pdf
Notice especially the Cascadia earthquake timeline for the last 10,000 years
on bottom of page 8.
This publication talks about the similarity of the Oregon Coast to that of
the Japanese Coast

Geoff -
The west coast of Oregon is on the North American Plate. To the west of the
coast of Oregon is the Juan de Fuca plate, which is actually a remnant of
the Farallon plate, subducting to the east and moving under the North
American Plate. The subduction zone between the two plates is the Juan de
Fuca subduction zone. The Farallon plate no longer exists.
